Short Bus

SHORT BUS

I couldn’t believe it when they told me

I couldn’t believe a single word that they said to me

I couldn’t believe it what they told me

I ain’t got no friends gonna ride the short bus with me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for

I couldn’t believe it when they gave me the news

I just bought these killer shoes, now, who’s gonna walk with me?

I couldn’t believe it what they told me

Who’s gonna go give that short bus a flat tire with me?

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for

I just could not believe that news when they gave it to me

What is my friend Zeke gonna think of me?

No, I couldn’t believe the shit they told me

I ain’t got no friends gonna ride the short bus with me

Yeah, short bus don’t stop for me

The idea for these lyrics came from Josh Walden.  Some people find believe that this song is offensive towards mentally handicapped people, but it’s actually just the opposite.  There was a rock jock who would not play this song on his show during Shut Up Marie’s 2005 radio campaign for that reason.  But the real meaning behind these lyrics is actually a statement about the dangers of labeling people, and how it can hurt them.

The lip trumpeters in this song include Annie, and a friend who she used to have lip trumpet contests with: Steve Chance.  (Steve did all the cooler/jazzy lip trumpet parts!)
