WAMI Nominee Annie B & The Vagabond Company Release Debut CD
“We are very blessed to be here in Milwaukee where there is not just one, but multiple radio stations and press outlets that really do a great job supporting & highlighting our local music scene.” Annie B. is very grateful to be receiving local airplay for 2 singles from the upcoming ABVC release due out this October. Annie has been performing around here for just a few years; her new band Annie B & The Vagabond Company had their first show at Tonic Tavern last winter and is now on a high-speed path to success.
“You just had your first show in February, and now you already have your CD Release Party scheduled for October with barely any tracks recorded yet? That’s pretty ambitious… but isn’t that a disaster just waiting to happen?” WUWM‘s Bruce Winter is one of those local radio personalities spinning ABVC’s singles on WUWM@Nite, which also featured the band performing live this past June.
ABVC also had the honor of playing a few local festivals this summer, including the brand new Briggs Stage at Summerfest on July 10th, Brady Street Festival, and Annie’s own creation, Artbeat in the Heat Music & Arts Festival.
The visual arts community here in Milwaukee may know Annie best as the producer & creator of Milwaukee Artbeat, an arts & interview showcase for local visual, performance, & musical artists of all types. Artbeat in the Heat is the outdoor summer event which features bands all day long and unique performance artists such as poets & spoken word, belly dancing, salsa dancing, and live art, and an array of eclectic artist vendors. “I love the collaborative process, it really opens the artist up to new perspectives and possibilities. And working with other types of artists is also a great opportunity for cross-promotion,” Annie admits that her involvement with Artbeat provides a creative way to reach new audiences that may not otherwise have exposure to her music.
Receiving a nomination for 2011 Female Vocalist WAMI Award, Annie stands out over 1,000 female vocalists in WI, according to Michael McGinley, VP of the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI). Annie is very excited to follow that honor up with the ABVC CD Release, featuring 10 original songs from her band which features Dave Johnson on drums, “Hollywood Fred” on bass guitar, Camille DeWinter on lead guitar, and Annie on vocals & acoustic guitar.
Annie has been heard on radio stations all over the U.S. as a solo artist & with her former bands throughout the 90s & early/mid 2000s. She relocated to Milwaukee in 2008 for family reasons, and has been working nonstop to get her career going in the Midwest. Annie’s songwriting & vocal style has been compared to artists including Alanis Morisette, Janis Joplin, and PJ Harvey.
ABVC’s CD Release happens on Friday, October 14th at Shank Hall. Doors are at 8pm and your first experience at this event will be live “music art” from local visual artists; they paint while you enjoy free appetizers! Supporting act and local “rock-pop-classical” favorite I’m Not A Pilot performs at 9pm, and ABVC takes the stage at 10:30. The door charge is $10 which will include the new ABVC CD! Shank Hall is located at 1434 North Farwell Avenue.
Radio listeners can win Prize Packages including tickets to the ABVC CD Release Party & Tour Milwaukee by listening to their favorite stations. Stations participating in these giveaways will be announced soon.
Annie B & The Vagabond Company is certainly making big strides in a short time. Annie’s response to Bruce Winter sums it up: “We ain’t scared! We ain’t scared!”
