ABVC is the January 2012 WAMI Featured Artist!

The Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) is what lots of industry folks consider as the “Grammy” organization of WI.

Here’s a little commentary from Michael McGinley, WAMI President:
“Part of the wonderment of the Milwaukee Music Scene is how it continues to feature a robust talent pool that resists what seems to occur elsewhere — which is the rubbing off of resident styles on one another to a degree that the place is emblematic of a sound and vice-versa. Milwaukee has always been the kind of place where we see few reasons to be like anybody else including those closest to us. Today, amongst another generation of close-knit artists in our City is one, Annie B. who exemplifies the bandwidth of our artists and fans. She is doing it her way, and we are buying into her clever pop-hooks, deconstructed and made raw with what seems nearly a sense of disdain for the process of making music itself, and her lyrics that give us a delicious feeling of accidentally peeking into our best friend’s diary.”

WAMI is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to educate and recognize the achievements and accomplishments of individuals in the Wisconsin music industry. Since 1980, WAMI has worked to improve communication and interaction among members, present awards to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of the Wisconsin music industry, produce music industry/music business seminars and workshops, accumulate information for use within a comprehensive Wisconsin music industry directory, partner with other Wisconsin-based organizations with a shared mission, and encourage, promote and educate musicians.

ABVC is honored to be the January 2012 WAMI Featured Band! Thanks for having us, WAMI!!!

Blogging Til I Win A Grammy: Day 1,019: 10,000 views for The Jennifer Song!

Post #60 of ANNIE B.’s D.I.Y. MAGAZINE: 10,000 views for The Jennifer Song!

Bugsy [the videographer who taped & produced "You and Me (The Jennifer Song)" video] called me a few weeks ago telling me about this Christian network of over 3 million contacts. He said they gave him their list but there’s really no way to effectively utilize this huge list of contacts in any way that makes a lot of sense to me as this point. We don’t know how many of these e-mail addresses are outdated, and we have no contact manager to add to & e-mail everyone, without it costing lots of money. I wasn’t sure how to deal with this information, so I kind of decided that if he wanted to investigate further, he could, but I wouldn’t even know where to start, so I kind of dropped the idea of doing something with that contact list.

I called him a few days ago asking him about his contact in Florida who works to get U.S. bands over to Europe, and then he mentioned that The Jennifer Song has over 10,000 views. I have no idea how that happened, except it must be related to the fact that he does have over 5,000 subscribers on YouTube. I mentioned the 10,000 views to the girl in Florida, and she seemed impressed. According to the girl in FL, the thing to do now is try to get more views in Europe (vs. the U.S.) Not sure how to do that, but THIS is worth investigating.

Anyhow, any ideas anyone has about this, please contact me with your ideas (through the contact form on this website). I certainly have a few contacts in Europe, but not many.

Either way, your help is needed to make sure that number of views continues to increase, so please enjoy the video and SHARE IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS!

I found this interesting article about going viral. Granted it’s from 2 years ago, but I imagine things have not changed drastically since then… http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/webhead/2009/07/will_my_video_get_1_million_views_on_youtube.html

Thanks much and Happy Holidays!!!!!!!

ATTN: Artists: Visual Artists Wanted for CD Release Party!!

We are now looking for artists who would like some exposure through our CD Release Party event at Shank Hall on Oct. 14th. We are looking for artists who can create a piece “live” at the event. The piece you create would be related to music… like a painting of a musical instrument, a person playing music, musical notes/symbols, anything with a MUSIC theme! You provide all of your own supplies and easel. You are free to bring one other large piece to this event, or 2 other smaller pieces, but you will need to bring the additional easel or small table to display these pieces. We will not be putting any artwork on the walls of the venue. This will be a gallery-type event, but it will not be set up like a gallery… all the artists need to take care of their own “display” needs for their additional piece(s), like a 2nd easel, or a small table. If you already have music-related pieces to bring as your “additional” piece(s), that is a bonus!! You may sell your work at this event (and you will keep 100% of the proceeds from any sale), and feel free to bring business/promotional cards.

The doors are at 8pm and you would be set up and ready to start your piece at that time, and go until about 9pm, when the supporting act “I’m Not A Pilot” performs. Annie B & the Vagabond Company performs at about 10:30 to close out the night. (The whole thing will probably start a little later if the Brewers make it to Game 5 of the playoffs, which is scheduled for Oct. 14!)

There has been a very active press & radio campaign happening for this event, along with some early Facebook activity (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=208793819165660), so we expect a great turnout!

Please e-mail AnnieBBaby at gmail dot com (note there are 2 B’s in a row in this e-mail address!) with a j-peg of your work, or a link to your website, with “ARTIST FOR OCT. 14 EVENT” in the subject line. Space is very limited for this event, so we will be reviewing artists as the submissions come in.

Thanks much!!!!!
