Post #65 of ANNIE B.’s D.I.Y. MAGAZINE
Today has been a big day of playing catch-up. I have added all the e-mail addresses for all the pending sign-up sheets from the last 2 weekends, and it feels like I have added about 300 e-mail addresses (but I have not). I am, right now, up to 1,455 e-mail addresses on my Annie B. list, and almost 400 on Artbeat. Yes, I HAVE stared seeing people at the shows (remember, I told you that once you have 1,000 people on your mailing list, you actually start seeing people at your shows?) but I am still struggling on how to see a bigger jump in the numbers a little more quickly. We are soooooo excited to be playing Summerfest again this year, but it’s the same timeslot that we had last year (in fact, it’s possible our timeslot last year was better… since the Sunday we played last summer was FREE ADMISSION DAY from noon until 3. This year, we play on Sunday, July 1st, and I don’t think that’s a free admission day). Either way, we are very grateful to be playing The Big Gig again this summer, along with Pridefest, and a bunch of other events on the webpage I linked to yesterday!
Organizing has never happened for me. That’s a huge part of my problem (as you my recall from about a year and a half ago,) and I am finally honestly realizing how it’s costing me dearly. You will have no room for BIGGER AND BETTER opportunities if there’s no room on your desk for them… no room to put them on your list of things to pursue, to follow-up on, to even have on your radar screen.
At least I have learned how to actually get through these e-mail lists when I have them to add to my Mailchimp account. (I used to just let them pile up and never got around to adding most of the e-mails I have collected over the last number of years.) It’s the first thing I try to tackle every Monday morning, along with the bookkeeping from the weekend’s activities, and the inventory I try to manage. I MUST give myself credit for that. If you can’t celebrate the little things, you will very easily get discouraged. OMG, guess what song is on the Oldies station right now? “Celebrate (Dance to the Music)” from Three Dog Night. Weird.
So I really have that much to celebrate??? I guess I do with all the original music gigs on the books right now. Ok, Yay, Goodie! I’m celebrating!
Next up is the shift to much more actively pursuing the opening gigs for bigger name acts that come around the area that we can travel to. Or, better yet, start following some of my favorites (like Alanis, Ani, Alison Krauss, etc.) Why not open for these acts in Des Moines, Madison, AND Milwaukee??
Ok, time to get back to work. Thanks for reading!
